Even unsweetened fruit juice can up cancer risk

Daily Few Sips Of Juice Or Soda Increase Your Risk Of Cancer

"High sugary drinks consumption is a risk factor for obesity and weight gain", she added.

So a team of researchers based in France set out to assess the associations between the consumption of sugary drinks (sugar-sweetened beverages and 100 per cent fruit juices), artificially sweetened (diet) beverages, and risk of overall cancer, as well as breast, prostate, and bowel (colorectal) cancers. For a person eating 2,000 calories per day, this would equal 50 grams of sugar, or about 12.5 teaspoons.

The study, co-led by Bernard Srour of the French Institute of Health, found that drinking 100 milliliters' worth of a sugary drink, such as a standard modern soft drink like Coca-Cola or Dr. Pepper, once per day can boost one's overall risk of developing cancer by a margin of 18 percent.

"The study uncovered links between the consumption of sugary drinks and the risk of cancer in general, and for breast cancer specifically", according to WebMD's report on the study.

According to the study published in the journal of BMJ, participants completed at least two 24-hour online validated dietary questionnaires, created to measure usual intake of 3,300 different food and beverage items and were followed up for a maximum of 9 years (2009-2018).

A French study's found drinking large amounts of fruit juice may increase your risk of developing cancer. Chazelas and colleagues accounted for potential confounders, including age, sex, education, hereditary risk of cancer, and lifestyle factors - such as smoking behaviour and exercise patterns.

101,257 adults were included in this study who completed at least two 24 hour online validated dietary questionnaires created to measure intake of more than 3,000 distinct food and beverage items, who were followed up with for a maximum of 9 years; risk factors for cancer such as age, sex, smoking status, family history, and physical activity levels among others were taken into account.

During this time, the researchers looked at the risk of "overall, breast, prostate, and colorectal cancer".

National Football League suspends Jets TE Herndon 4 games for substance violation
A first-time offender usually only gets two games unless the league determines there were aggravating circumstances. The test revealed a blood-alcohol level over New Jersey's limit of.08, according to State Police Sgt.

"These results need replication in other large-scale prospective studies".

For every 1,000 people involved in the study, 22 cancer cases were found. By contrast, diet drinks did not increase cancer risk.

It's not a new thing that people all around the world like to consume sugary drinks.

Chazelas and colleagues also lay out the strengths and weaknesses of their research. However, the findings may not be widely generalizable, as the study cohort is not representative of the wider population, they continue.

Public health agencies says people don't have to avoid the drinks completely, but recommend you consume less than one drink a day to minimise the risk.

Responding to the study, the American Beverage Association stressed the safety of sugary drinks.

Other limitations include the inability to determine causality and potential measurement biases. If the findings of a latest study are to be believed, sugary drinks may be associated with an increased risk of cancer.

Observational results yielded should be interpreted with caution, but they do add to a growing body of evidence supporting drastically limiting consumption of sugary drinks.
