Google is Working on Yet Another Social Network

Google’s taking another crack at building a social network

While Google+ gave other major social networks a fright in its early days, it eventually ran out of steam and had to close down for good just this year. The app, which comes from Google's in-house incubator Area 120, is aimed at helping people find activities to do and people to do those activities with.

As per the Shoelace website, this "match-making" is based on the interests and pick, and accordingly the app hooks you up with like-minded people for various activities.

As for the name, Google says: "The whole premise of Shoelace is to tie people together based on their interests ... like two laces on a shoe".

Google might not have succeeded in building a successful social networking platform inspite of several attempts, but that isn't apparently stopping the company from giving it one more shot anyway.

Afcon 2019: Ivory Coast will be stronger next time - Gbohouo
However, when Serey Die followed suit with the final penalty, Algeria were left to celebrate booking semifinal date with Nigeria . With Madagascar struggling to recreate the magic of their incredible run to the quarterfinals, Tunisia pounced again.

Without much fanfare, the search giant just launched Shoelace - an app created to help people with similar interests meet up in the real world. The company's experimental Area 120 workshop group is working on a new app called Shoelace, which sounds quite different from the likes of Facebook and Instagram.

Once users have listed their interests, it will recommend some hand-picked local activities, which it calls "Loops". "After installing the app, we ask each user to join a community - which often require verification - to ensure you only attend Loops with people you might want to know", the team said in that same FAQ.

While our goal is to bring Shoelace to cities nationwide, we've chose to focus our efforts on New York City at first. This time around, they're starting small again, launching in New York City and by invitation only. For example, Shoelace's moderators will try to ensure that content added to the app aligns with its "House Rules" and community standards. Android Police notes that Shoelace is similar to former Google app Schemer. You can request an invite by filling up this Google form.
