UK Labour Party in turmoil over new anti-Semitism claims

UK's Labour Party spars with BBC over charges of anti-Semitism

"I thought he actually wanted to know how we tackle anti-Semitism within the Labour Party", Creighton said. In 2015 he made a documentary, also for Panorama, which was condemned by the party at the time as being a "hatchet job" on Jeremy Corbyn.

The BBC quoted an email from Milne telling Labour's internal complaints team that "something's going wrong, and we're muddling up political disputes with racism".

Speaking on BBC Radio Wales' Breakfast programme, he added: "The thing that was most rotten about the response to [the claims] was to try and rubbish their reputation, simply saying they were politically motivated and disaffected staff, as opposed to young men and women who've spoken out very bravely and honourably about what is clearly an bad situation".

But Watson said: "I deplore the statement that was made about those people last night; you couldn't fail to be saddened and moved by the testimony, particularly of the young members who'd had racist abuse in party meetings".

"Something's going wrong and we're muddling up political disputes with racism", the BBC reported him writing, "I think going forward we need to review where and how we're drawing the line".

The Labour Party, in turn, rejected anti-Semitism interference allegations which it said had been made by "disaffected former officials" who "include those who have always opposed Jeremy Corbyn's leadership, worked to actively undermine it, and have both personal and political axes to grind".

The EHRC is investigating whether the party "unlawfully discriminated against, harassed or victimised people because they are Jewish".

And he said he and the shadow cabinet had been denied access to information on the scale of the problem and the party's official response to an investigation by the equalities watchdog into how Labour handles allegations of antisemitism.

"This throws into doubt their credibility as sources".

Louise Withers Green, a former disputes officer, experienced depression and anxiety and also quit the party, the BBC says.

Virat Kohli: India captain says New Zealand defeat broke their hearts
Sharma, the Cricket World Cup's top run-scorer with 648, edged Matt Henry behind off the fourth ball of his innings. This was after India crashed out of the World Cup after an 18 run defeat at the hands of New Zealand this morning.

"We've got to agree that the Labour party will never again use gagging orders to try and stop people expressing their deeply held concerns about racism in our own ranks".

And shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry, speaking to Sky News before the Panorama programme was broadcast, refused to endorse the party's claim that the broadcast was a "political intervention" by the BBC.

Labour described the programme as "seriously inaccurate" and "politically one-sided".

Lord Triesman - the general secretary of the Labour Party for two years under Tony Blair - accused the party's leader, Jeremy Corbyn, and "his circle" of being anti-Semitic.

"An honest investigation into antisemitism in Labour and wider society is in the public interest". And Panorama distorted and manipulated the truth and misrepresented evidence to present a biased and selective account. We will be pursuing complaints at every level.

In addition, he said members of the party's National Executive Committee and shadow cabinet should see Labour's submission to the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

"Labour stands in solidarity with Jewish people and is fully committed to the support, defence and celebration of the Jewish community and its organisations".

How many slaps on the wrist, we are left wondering after Wednesday's Panorama, would in fact have been goodbye waves had the likes of Seamus Milne and Jennie Formby not elbowed their way into the process in the way they did?

"Labour is taking decisive action against anti-Semitism, doubling the number of staff dedicated to dealing with complaints and cases".

The Labour Press Team Twitter account also reported being hacked shortly after the show aired.
