Barcelona have fended off reported interest from other European heavyweights to sign England youth global Louie Barry, with the Ligue 1 champions rumoured to be eyeing the 16-year old, along with several Premier League clubs.

The striker had even undergone a medical in Paris last Thursday and was set to sign for the Ligue 1 side on Friday before a last-minute intervention from Barca saw him make a U-turn.

Barry, who turned 16 last month, signed a three-year deal with Barcelona until 2022 and will play for their Under-19 team while West Brom will receive £235,000 pounds as compensation.

The 16-year-old is one of the hottest, young prospects in the English game and Barcelona have confirmed that he will play for their Under 19's squad next season.

West Brom are yet to confirm Barry's departure.

Barry will move straight into La Masia academy's Juvenil A team - the equivalent to the Under 18 football he was playing at West Brom previous year.
