Google, Qualcomm, Intel, and Broadcom all cut ties with Huawei

Lawmakers applaud Google for revoking Huawei’s Android license

Anyone who now owns a Huawei handset will still be able to download app updates provided by Google. Basically, this means that Huawei users will still be able to update their apps via Google Play Store, as well as download new apps whenever they want.

While current devices are safe, future Huawei mobiles won't be allowed to use Android in any guise other than the Android Open Source Project.

"We are complying with the order and reviewing the implications", a Google spokesman said.

This could be a reference to United States president Donald Trump's executive order apparently aimed at banning Huawei's equipment from USA networks and said it was subjecting the Chinese company to strict export controls. A Huawei spokesperson stated that the Chinese firm is "evaluating the possible impact of this USA government action on consumers".

China has urged the US to stop "harassing overseas companies" and slammed US President Donald Trump's decision to sign a national emergency order that prohibits American firms from using foreign-made equipment, citing espionage fears.

"As one of Android's key global partners, we have worked closely with their open-source platform to develop an ecosystem that has benefitted both users and the industry", a Huawei spokesperson said in a statement obtained by the Wall Street Journal.

Google said on Twitter, "We assure you while we are complying with all USA gov't requirements, services like Google Play & security from Google Play Protect will keep functioning on your existing Huawei device".

Google, like all tech companies, collaborates directly with smartphone makers to ensure its systems are compatible with their devices.

The company said it will continue to provide security updates and after-sales services to owners of its smartphones and tablets.

Google, owned by Alphabet Inc, said it would enact restrictions on Android updates after U.S. President Donald Trump added Huawei to a trade blacklist, making it extremely hard for it to do business with U.S. counterparts.

Top US tech companies have suspended the supply of their software and gear to the Chinese telecom giant.

The extent to which Huawei will be hurt by the US government's blacklist is not yet known as its global supply chain assesses the impact.

Due to new sanctions on the Chinese company in the US, Google has pulled access to all core Android services, in a move that could severely impact the launch of new Huawei and Honor phones. If it's to keep selling phones globally, Huawei must make its own operating system with an alternative app store. Chip experts have questioned Huawei's ability to continue to operate without U.S. help.

As well as restrictions on the software running its devices, Huawei faces the prospect of losing access to some of the US hardware suppliers it needs to produce its technology.

As the two largest economies in the world still struggle in the trade conflicts, it is believed that the US might have other moves when they unilaterally perceive that their needs are not satisfied.
