Nazem Kadri looking at fifth career suspension

Nazem Kadri looking at fifth career suspension

The NHL suspended Kadri for the remainder of the first-round series between Toronto and Boston after his cross-check to the face of Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk in Game 2 on Saturday.

"I've said this before, it feels like an natural disaster under you". In the end, Kadri lost his cool and will likely be suspended for multiple games for cross-checking DeBrusk in the face.

He'll take that meeting in NY on Monday, which obviously will keep him out of Game 3 that night in Toronto. Patrice Bergeron would get his second of the night just a minute into the ensuing power play to give the Bruins the win. Unlike Game 2, when they crumbled under the withering Boston fore-checking, the Leafs managed to withstand the early Bruins push and get the better of the scoring chances in the first half of the period.

Veteran winger Tyler Ennis draws into the lineup and takes Brown's spot on the fourth line to make up for Kadri's absence. The Buds will be fired up in this one after the way Game 2 ended and I think we finally see Auston Matthews for the first time in these playoffs as Toronto retakes the series lead. Rask went tumbling backwards, but stayed in the game after stretching out his neck and left shoulder.

The Bruins are 5-2 in their last 7 meetings with the Maple Leafs and 15-5 in their last 20 games following a win while the home team is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings between these sides. The Leafs used their speed, skill and a surprisingly physical game to frazzle the Bruins. They entered the third period with a 3-2 lead, and were able to protect that against a Bruins team that can be quite unsafe.

But the Bruins quickly reminded the Leafs why they finished ahead of them in the Atlantic Division race when Leafs defenceman Jake Muzzin took a holding penalty late in the period.

Andersen - by far the best Leaf - robbed Heinen with an exceptional glove save on a power play before Rask made a toe stop on Andreas Johnsson.

"The edge for everybody's a little bit different, to be honest with you", Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock said before the National Hockey League handed down its decision. We liked our game in Game 1, felt real good about yourself.

The 28-year-old has been suspended four times for a total of 14 games in his career, including that trio playoff contests. "Ideally all those things are contagious". In the end, you can't let that get in the way of what you're doing.

The Bruins, probably mindful of a potential crackdown by the referees after the mayhem from Kadri, DeBrusk and many others in Game 2, did not come quite as hard as they did in winning that game 4-1.

The NHL's department of public safety tweeted it had offered Kadri an in-person hearing.

William Nylander slid over from the wing to take Kadri's place on Toronto's third line behind between Patrick Marleau and Connor Brown.

Note: Game 5 is set for Friday in Boston.

In the last six years, the Leafs have faced the Bruins three times in the first round of the playoffs, building a rivalry that has dominated Leafs Nation in recent years and put tensions with the Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators on the back burner. This is game three of a best-of-seven series, which is tied at one game apiece.
