Ovechkin's Washington Capitals now lead their first round playoff series with the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0.

What did you think of Ovechkin's crushing knockout of Andrei Svechnikov?

But, during Game 3 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Washington Capitals star forward didn't hesitate to drop the gloves against the Carolina Hurricanes Andrei Svechnikov, who probably regrets asking Ovechkin if he wanted to go. They exchanged several blows before Ovechkin connected with a knockout punch to the right side of Svechnikov's head.

It was the first-ever National Hockey League fight for Svechnikov, who was selected second overall by the Hurricanes in 2018.

Svechnikov struggled to get to his feet after the fight and was helped off the ice by Hurricanes staff.

It was Ovechkin's first fight since December 12, 2010 when he got involved with Brandon Dubinsky.

Ovechkin has fought just four times in his career and never before in the playoffs.

Carolina said Svechnikov would miss the rest of the game with an upper-body injury. He proved to be a valuable asset to his team during the regular season, scoring 20 goals and 37 points in 82 games.
