Minneapolis Police on April 12 2019

A man who allegedly threw a 5-year-old boy over the third-floor balcony at the Mall of America near Minneapolis Friday was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide.

Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda has been charged with attacking a 5-year-old boy at the Mall of America Friday.

"That's a pretty high fall", Bloomington Police Chief Jeffrey Potts said at a news conference Saturday in Minnesota, describing the scene and his reaction to it.

"We feel confident saying that the suspect threw the child off of the third floor", Potts told CNN.

'She was screaming "Everyone pray, everyone pray. Oh, my God, my baby, someone threw him over the edge, '" Brian Johnson told WCCO.

As to a motive, police say they don't believe the man knew the child or family, Potts said. Police still do not believe there was any connection between the family and Aranda.

Noah Hanneman, a family friend who set up the GoFundMe page, said that Landen remains in stable condition, "contrary to the rumors and attention seekers out there stating that he has passed".

'A monster of a man threw him from a 3rd floor balcony at the mall, he is fighting to stay with us every second'.

Hanneman confirmed that the child is still alive and being cared for in the hospital. "Thank you again for all of your support, we are truly gracious to be surrounded by a community that reaches out to help those in need", the family friend said.

"We think this is a very isolated event", Potts said.

He asked the public to keep the boy's family and first responders in their thoughts and prayers.

The Mall of America, home to 330 stores, is located in the city of Bloomington, just south of Minneapolis.

'Our immediate and only concern is for the wellbeing of the family and the child, as well as for any individuals who may have witnessed the incident.

According to court records, the suspect has been previously barred from the Mall of America.

He was also convicted of fifth-degree assault, trespassing and interfering with a police officer for an incident in October of 2015.

Three months later, Aranda was accused of throwing glasses of water and tea at a woman in a restaurant at the mall for refusing to buy him food, according to the court records. However, the trespassing notice was not in effect at the time of the incident, The AP reported.
