Mobile launches a TV bundle that sounds a lot like cable

You'll pay $90 per month ($80 if you're a phone customer) for 150-plus channels and $10 per connected TV, but there are no hidden fees used to jack up the real price.

But T-Mobile says "core to the Un-carrier's TV strategy is that TVision Home works with the apps and hardware and services people already use".

"The Un-carrier has already changed wireless for good... and today's news brings us one step closer to taking on Big Cable", T-Mobile CEO John Legere said.

Along with the new service, T-Mobile is also rolling out a plan it calls "Satellite Freedom", offering to compensate customers who switch to TVision Home from DirecTV or Dish.

The platform itself is simply an upgraded version of the Layer3 TV service which it acquired to $325 million past year, though considering how long T-Mobile US has kept everyone waiting, it does seem a bit underwhelming. The service will launch on April 14 in Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Longmont, Colorado, and T-Mobile subscribers can get a $10-per-month discount. Customers can add connections at Dollars 10 per TV, including a whole-home DVR for a limited time, and premium packages can also be added for extra fees, such as HBO, Showtime and others.

Ticket prices surge for Dwyane Wade's final home game with Miami Heat
I thank y'all for your patience this year. "You talk about Hall of Fame players, they make the other players around them better". But he's still superb, and with a flair for the dramatic - such as the buzzer-beater to top Golden State a few weeks ago.

T-Mobile did not provide much information on the mobile service today, other than stating the service will launch "later in 2019".

The new TVision Home is a reworking of Layer3, the IPTV cable provider it acquired a year ago.

T-Mobile US has launched its own TV service, based on the Layer3 TV platform acquired in 2017.

Not-really-a-deal pricing aside, TVision Home offers 4K, dedicated customer care that supposedly doesn't suck, TV profiles for everyone in the family, a personalized menu system, controls via Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa, controls over some smart home tech, and access to your favorite apps, like Netflix and YouTube. Not to mention that the price doesn't include any taxes, which could be anywhere between 4 percent and 20 percent of a bill's total. According to T-Mobile over 275 channels will be available under the full-service plan as well as 400 hours of HD DVR service that can record multiple channels at once. Premium TV packages like HBO and Showtime as well as on-demand rentals are extra. If we take away the $9.99/month discount that's only available for a limited time, the service costs $100, not too far from the average of $107 that T-Mobile says American households usually pay per month for cable. Also, there's no long-term commitment, which means you can stop using the service at any time without having to pay any early termination fees. Not with TVision Home.
