Trump, lawmakers await details of Mueller's Russian Federation report

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Representative Jerrold Nadler

Special counsel Robert Mueller spent 22 months examining whether Donald Trump's campaign conspired with Russian Federation to sway the 2016 election.

Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein concluded that the evidence did not justify bringing obstruction charges, in part because there was no underlying crime. "The findings do NOT negate the President's bigotry".

"And most obviously, for the president to say he is completely exonerated directly contradicts the words of Mr. Mueller and is not to be taken with any degree of credibility".

Trump's victory lap came after he kept a low profile over the weekend, heeding the advice of his lawyers, who warned him against tweeting about the probe before details were released.

Mueller's team has no plans to issue any new indictments.

Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah, said he is "heartened" at the special counsel's conclusions.

The special counsel's office employed a massive effort through the court system and in interviewing witnesses to reach its findings. Asked if he still believes Trump obstructed justice, he indicated there has been obstruction but "whether it's criminal is another question".

"The special prosecutor is limited in scope, his job was limited in scope and limited to crimes", Nadler said on CNN Sunday morning before the Barr letter was delivered to Congress. Despite Trump's claim of total exoneration, Mueller did not draw a conclusion one way or the other on whether he sought to stifle the Russian Federation investigation through his actions including the firing of former FBI director James Comey. A long-standing Justice Department opinion also holds that federal prosecutors can not indict a sitting president.

Mueller's report has not been released in full. The inquiry focused on whether Trump's campaign coordinated with Russian Federation during the 2016 campaign, as well as whether the president tried to obstruct the probe.

"We will try to negotiate". His remarks foreshadow what advisers say will be an unsparing effort to cast the entire Mueller probe as a pointless and expensive folly.

Barr said he wants to release as much as he can under the law.

The decision by a DOJ official nominated by Trump to excuse the president of obstruction of justice allegations is likely to infuriate congressional Democrats, who are already demanding access to Mueller's full report and the underlying evidence.

"Here's what bothers me: By the time we get to 2020, Donald Trump may not even be president", Warren told a Cedar Rapids crowd last month. "I have requested the assistance of the Special Counsel". The special counsel instead declined to determine whether the president had illegally attempted to shut down the investigation into him - and left it to Barr's Justice Department, which found there was not enough evidence to show obstruction of justice.

None of those charges, however, directly related to the question of collusion between the campaign and Moscow.

The conclusion of Mueller's investigation does not remove legal peril for the president. "Congress and the American people deserve to know all of the facts".

Trump and his associates and businesses still face investigations by federal prosecutors in NY as well as by state attorneys general. NY prosecutors also are looking into Trump's inaugural fund.
