No-deal Brexit 'increasingly likely', EU officials say

Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May is seen outside Downing Street in London Britain

The previous record was held by a 2016 petition calling for a second referendum on Brexit.

"We've got to address the question of what type of Brexit is acceptable to Parliament, what type of way forward Parliament can agree on so that we can avoid what would be an economic catastrophe of a no-deal exit and also what would be a very big challenge to confidence in our political system if we didn't exit at all", Hammond said.

Hundreds of thousands of pro-Europeans from across Britain marched through London on Saturday calling for another referendum on European Union membership with the country mired in political paralysis over Brexit.

This would trigger a Conservative Party leadership contest whose victor would become the new prime minister.

The Sunday Times newspaper reported that 11 Cabinet ministers - nearly half of her senior government ministers - are to confront May with an ultimatum, urging her to quit in return for support for her Withdrawal Agreement.

Writing in the Telegraph, he said: "If she can not give that evidence of change - she should drop the deal, and go back to Brussels, and simply set out the terms that so many on both sides - remainers and leavers - now believe are sensible".

"To be talking about changing the players on the board frankly is self-indulgent", he said.

Blackford said: "No parliamentarians should be going through the lobbies to make their constituents poorer".

The Sun's political editor, Tom Newton Dunn, said some ministers were urging May to pivot to a no-deal Brexit as the only way to survive in power.

The Chancellor confirmed parliament would vote on a series of alternative Brexit options this week, and acknowledged that May will be unlikely to salvage her own plan, which lawmakers have already crushed by historic proportions on two occasions.

Mike Ashley makes £100m offer for Danish arm of Debenhams
The injection of cash will allow the troubled retailer to restructure, lenders have until next Thursday to approve the cash call. Last week, it confirmed it had offered a £150m loan to Debenhams as part of a deal that would make Mr Ashley chief executive.

If the withdrawal agreement fails, or is not presented, the United Kingdom government needs to go back to the European Union by April 12 with a plan of how to proceed with Brexit.

May has said she hopes to hold a vote on her deal this week, but hinted on Friday that she might not do so if there was not enough support for it to be passed.

It quickly passed the 100,000-signature threshold needed for it to be debated in Parliament, with the official committee revealing almost 2,000 signatures were being completed every minute over Thursday lunchtime.

May has also ruled this option out, telling reporters: "I do not believe we should be revoking Article 50".

Defeat for the Government on Monday night on the plan - tabled by former ministers Sir Oliver Letwin and Dominic Grieve and Labour MP Hilary Benn - would be a further humiliation for Mrs May. May went to her usual church service near her Chequers country residence on Sunday with her husband.

Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Steve Baker attended along with ministers David Lidington and Michael Gove who had been reportedly lined up as caretaker prime ministers.

"I'm afraid it's all over for the PM".

"Whoever is prime minister we will work with them".

A similar amendment voted on earlier this month lost by just two votes so this is expected to have a good chance of passing.

In a warning to the UK, EU officials said even if there was a no-deal Brexit there would "still be a debt to be paid" and this would have to be dealt with before any future trade discussions could take place.
