Tata Motors' JLR recalls 44,000 cars over CO2 emission levels

The recall is thought to be the first Carbon dioxide related recall for JLR.

Tata Motors owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has initiated a voluntary recall of around 44,000 cars in the United Kingdom over higher than certified levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Affected models were all built between 2016 and 2019 and fitted with the firm's 2.0-litre petrol or 2.0-litre diesel engines.

Jaguar XE, XF, E-Pace and F-Pace as well as the Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar, and Range Rover Sport have all been affected.

The repairs are expected to include software updates as well as physical alterations.

According to the BBC, the voluntary recall covers 10 diesel or petrol-engined models, which were found by the Vehicle Certification Agency to be emitting more emissions than stated. Some Range Rover Evoque models will need new tyres. Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover celebrated the XJ's 50 anniversary a year ago when it announced on multiple occasions plans for an all-new vehicle.

Any and all support helps keep DualShockers as a standalone, independent platform for less-mainstream opinions and news coverage. Now, players can appreciate new high-level quests, new entrance, and victory scenes and better costume unlocking.

At the same time, worldwide agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions has prompted multiple governments to announce plans to ban the sale of new fossil fuel-powered cars, with the United Kingdom to do so from 2040.

European manufacturers are under pressure to reduce average emissions of new vehicles from 118.5g of Carbon dioxide per kilometre to less than 95g by 2021.

"The DVSA's priority is to protect everyone from unsafe drivers and vehicles".

JLR's recall is not likely to have a material impact on the auto maker's finances. Indeed, JLR posted a loss of $4-billion in the third quarter of the 2018-19 financial year leading to concerns the company is running out of money.

A statement from JLR reads: "The modifications will be made free of charge, and every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience to the customer".
