Jacinda Ardern's office received manifesto from Christchurch shooter minutes before attack

A judge demanded Tarrant's face be pixelated to ensure a fair trial

A 24-year-old man from Oldham, Greater Manchester, was arrested on Saturday after posting comments online supporting the slaughter, Greater Manchester Police said.

"It is not who we are", she told reporters in Canberra on Sunday.

Police have not released the names of those killed in the attack, but charging documents listed one of the victims as Salwa Mirwan Mohamad. The number of people injured in the attacks was also 50, of whom 36 remained in hospital.

Police Commissioner Mike Bush said the body of the 50th victim was found at the Al Noor mosque, where more than 40 people died after a gunman entered and shot randomly at people with a semi-automatic rifle with high-capacity magazines, before travelling to a second mosque to do the same.

Her husband Farid Uddin survived the attack.

"I have been deeply saddened by the appalling events in Christchurch today", she said. The couple was due to fly out Sunday.

Imran had dropped off his father, an electrical engineer, at the Al Noor mosque on Friday and was looking for a parking space when the shooting began. They have not heard from him since.

Footage of the attack on one of the mosques was broadcast live on Facebook, and a "manifesto" denouncing immigrants as "invaders" was sent to politicians and media outlets and posted online via links to related social media accounts. - AP Mourners paying their respects at a makeshift memorial near the Masjid Al Noor mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, Saturday, March 16, 2019.

An assistant DA there referred a reporter to the office's public information officer, who was not immediately available. For one, a 24-year-old man from Brick, New Jersey has already been arrested in connection with the murder.

At least one of the weapons used by Tarrant was reportedly an AR-15 - the same semi-automatic rifle used in a number of mass shootings in the United States, including the 2012 Sandy Hook school killings in CT. He also had more assault weapons in the trunk of his vehicle, along with what appeared to be explosives.

New Zealand has in the past tried to tighten firearm laws, but a strong gun lobby and culture of hunting has stymied such efforts.

Most guns do not require registration under New Zealand's Arms Act and police do not know "how many legally or illegally owned firearms there are in New Zealand", police said past year. The suspect has spent little time in Australia in the past four years and only had minor traffic infractions on his record.

"A category-A firearm holder can purchase the firearms without the magazines or the things that will enable them to be in the state that they were", Bush said.

New Zealand prime minister Jacinda Ardern has said that gun laws will be reformed after the attacks, as legislation allowed the suspect the legally obtain a semi-automatic weapon. He has been remanded in custody until April 5 and police have said more charges are likely to follow. But it has one of the lowest gun homicide rates in the world.

Ardern said the main suspect was a licensed gun owner who used five weapons during his rampage, including two semi-automatic weapons and two shotguns.

I'm advised this was acquired in November of 2017.

"It's just so much for everything to take in that somebody in our family would do anything like this", she said.
