Australia bars provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos over massacre comments

Milo Yiannopoulos Barred From Entering Australia After Christchurch Attack

Yep, Milo Yiannopoulos is at it again: This time, the ultra-conservative gay political pundit has been banned from Australia after making offensive comments on this week's devastating terror attacks at two mosques in New Zealand.

Government officials were appalled by Yiannopoulos' comments about "barbaric cultures", and said they would make a statement about denying him permission to enter the country Saturday afternoon, according to the Herald. But Australian authorities made a decision to yank his permission to come following his Facebook post saying attacks like the one in Christchurch happen because the establishment "mollycoddles extremist leftism and barbaric, alien religious cultures".

The ban will be the third position the government has held in as many weeks on whether to allow the controversial figure to travel to Australia for a speaking tour later this year.

Mr Coleman countered that the "terrorist attack in Christchurch was carried out on Muslims peacefully practising their religion".

Coleman added that the attack, which left at least 49 Muslim worshippers dead and dozens injured, was "pure evil".

The Department of Home Affairs had listed reasons to ban the provocateur, including violence sparked during protests of his 2017 tour and an $AU50,000 bill by the Victorian government for extra security and damages caused by the incident.

Coleman didn't specifically state which of Yiannopoulos' comments he was referring to.

He also defended extreme American right-wing commentator Candace Owens, whom a suspected gunman in the attack named as an inspiration. "Not when someone dares to point it out", he said in a Facebook post.

Twitter banned Yiannopoulos, who is British but has lived in the USA, from its platform in 2016. "And I criticized the establishment for pandering to Islamic fundamentalism".

Labor MP Tony Burke took to Twitter to praise the decision to ban the speaker.
