Marketa Vondrousova, a 19-year-old Czech left-hander, was slated to face No. 6 seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in a quarter-final match Wednesday night, with the victor drawing Andreescu.

Ranked 152nd in the world at the end of a year ago, Andreescu is up to 60th and rising.

The Chinese No.1 would twice come through tight holds with strong serving to keep the deficit to a single break, and found accuracy in her defensive lobs that was missing from her offensive groundstrokes.

The 18-year-old Canadian defeated the two-time Grand Slam victor 6-0, 6-1, to be one of the last four women standing in the tournament.

In the semifinal, will face No. 6 seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine after she defeated 19-year-old left-hander Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The 2019 season is young, as is her professional tennis career, but few players on the women's tour are attracting as much attention as the 18-year-old Canadian.

"It's been a really positive time for Canadian tennis", Raonic said, "and it's been a real inspiration and joy for me to see the progress".

And today I think I just played my best tennis - one of the best matches I've ever played", Andreescu said during her on-court interview after the victory. "I have a good team around me that help me stay grounded". "I'm happy for her". And now Shapovalov and Auger-Aliassime have each other. "This year all the wins have definitely given me confidence".
