FBI Shares Sketches of Victims Drawn by Serial Killer

Serial Killer Samuel Little has made portraits of 16 of his victims who remain unknown

The FBI released 16 of Little's portraits, all of which were drawn from memory, on Tuesday.

He gave each a unique feature or two: A Miami teenager's blue headband holds back long black hair; a victim in Atlanta has sharp features and appears caught in mid-laugh; and a woman slain in Texas has purple hair. "It's the least we can do", Buchwald added.

The strategy has worked before, Buchwald said. He began drawing the portraits of his victims from memory a year ago with the encouragement of investigators.

The Texas Rangers say Little to date has confessed to 90 homicides nationwide over the past four decades.

Sam Little, 78, said he aimlessly murdered an innocent person in 1970 and repeated the act 92 more times over the next 35 years, before halting his sickening tirade in 2005.

The faces of women Little claims he killed, drawn by him, released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the hopes someone will know who they were.

According to the FBI, Little, who was a one-time competitive boxer, chose to kill marginalized and vulnerable women who were often involved in prostitution and addicted to drugs.

Details of the list - including the suspected gender, race, age of the victims, as well as the locations the suspected murders occurred - are based on interviews with the killer, with all but one of the unmatched victims being women.

"Over the course of that interview in May he went through city and state and gave Ranger Holland the number of people he killed in each place. Jackson, Mississippi - one; Cincinnati, Ohio - one; Phoenix, Arizona - three; Las Vegas, Nevada - one".

Little, also known as Samuel McDowell, was already in prison when his name came up in the FBI's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program, known as ViCAP, last year.

Little is serving a life sentence in Texas after pleading guilty in December in Odessa to the 1994 strangulation of Denise Christie Brothers, whose body was found about a month after she disappeared.

Investigators have confirmed 34 of the confessed killings, authorities said in November.

However, more than half of his confessions are yet to be confirmed or matched to open cases.

Now in poor health, Little is in custody in California, according to Ector County DA Bland.

CNN has reached out to EJ Leach, the attorney representing Little in the Texas case, and has not yet received a response.

He had been arrested almost 100 times, yet served less than 10 years in prison before detectives tracked him down at a homeless shelter in Kentucky in 2012.
