Thunder Waive Guard Alex Abrines

Thunder release guard Alex Abrines, cite personal issue

Abrines was waived by the Thunder Saturday after three seasons with the franchise.

The draft pick used to select Abrines in 2013 was sent to Oklahoma City as part of the October 2012 trade between Oklahoma City and Houston. The Spanish guard will become a free agent once he clears waivers.

Abrines has appeared in only 2 games since December 23rd, citing personal reasons.

After reportedly parting ways with Abrines, the Thunder now have just 12 players signed to guaranteed contracts and a pair of two-way contracts.

January unemployment up from December, drops from start of 2018

High school hall monitor shot, wounded while confronting intruder
A Frederick Douglass High School staff member was shot Friday afternoon by an adult visitor to the Baltimore school. At about noon local time, the suspect tried to enter Frederick Douglass High School.

The Thunder has time. The 25-year-old player had signed with the Thunder in 2016, after spending four seasons in EuroLeague with Barcelona.

In Abrines' absence, Abdel Nader's minutes have increased to 14.8 per game in the last 21 games.

Abrines' release comes in the middle of a odd 2018-19 season that saw him struggle through the first 29 games (career-low 32.3% 3P), then missed 17 consecutive games due to personal issues.

The hopes that Abrines could be that upgrade ended Saturday.
