Rape coma baby: Hacienda Healthcare staff must hand DNA to police

A woman who gave birth in a vegetative state was reportedly raped several times.

"Our nation is very much in denial about how widespread the problem of sexual abuse is - especially when you have a population that does not fit the mainstream criteria as a sexual being", Kristen Houser, spokesperson for the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, told Vox.

A male patient complained Hacienda HealthCare staff walked in on him while he was trying to shower with assistance in December 2017.

On Tuesday, officials with the San Carlos Apache Tribe say the woman at the center of the controversy is a 29-year-old who has been in a persistent vegetative state for over a decade, and is a patient at Hacienda Del Sol in Phoenix.

Previously, healthcare sources said: "From what I've been told, she was moaning".

The Arizona Department of Health Services also released a statement.

San Carlos Apache Police chief Alejandro Benally said Phoenix police "will do all they can to find the perpetrator". "And we will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of every single one of our patients and our employees". "And they didn't know what was wrong with her", the source said.

FDA Warns That Certain Candies Might Be Contaminated with Hepatitis A

The reported birth - and the sexual assault on a vulnerable individual that must have preceded it - has cast a harsh glare on conditions at a nonprofit organization that bills itself as a leading provider of health care for Phoenix's medically fragile.

The state department of economic security dispatched a team to conduct health and safety checks at the facility, and the department of health services has beefed up safety measures: more staff, increased monitoring and stronger security.

It would be the police who would lead DNA testing to figure out who fathered the baby, Solomon said.

Social media was flooded with outrage over why police will not call the investigation of a woman in a vegetative state being impregnated, then giving birth a sex crime.

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said he'd been briefed on the situation and called the "reports deeply troubling".

But there have been reports of patient mistreatment.

"We will continue to co-operate with Phoenix Police and all other investigative agencies to uncover the facts in this deeply disturbing, but unprecedented situation", the company said in a statement.

According to its website, Hacienda HealthCare serves more than 2,500 people throughout Arizona each year.

Behind closed doors he was told about a non-verbal male in a bed at the facility with concerns female nurses were standing around his bed talking about his genitals.
