But now the company collaborated with The Associated Press, The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times and The Washington Post - among other services to offer up on-demand, up-to-the-minute news.

Google wants to make sure that Assistant is your go-to source for just about everything it possibly can be, and news delivery certainly falls in that purview. On Thursday, Google announced a new effort to personalize the audio news feed available through the company's digital assistant software.

Audio journalism requires new capabilities and workflows for both print publishers and broadcasters, whether it's adding a sound booth or segmenting larger broadcasts into shorter stories. Users can also ask Google Assistant to go back to a previous story. It'll also be smart enough to avoid repeating the same new stories you've already heard during the day.

Going beyond a simple flash briefing of the day's headlines catered to some general categories of interest, a full AI algorithm borrowed from Google News will deliver audio content that it thinks you will want to hear.

In order to further advance this feature, Google built an open specification which publishers can take advantage of in order to deliver their content to more listeners.

Google will be rolling out these intelligent news broadcasts to "a limited number of people via the Google Assistant in the United States in English" to begin with, so we may see these at some stage in the future.

The new feature is only available to a limited number of users in the USA, and an worldwide release will come later on. Medium-format stories, on the other hand, can last from 2 to 15 minutes. After that, Assistant will select a few longer, more detailed stories.
