Jarryd Hayne arrested over alleged sexual assault

NRL star Jarryd Hayne has been released on strict conditional bail after being charged with sexually assaulting a woman.

News of the alleged sexual assault broke last week, when it was revealed a complaint had been made to the NRL Integrity Unit.

The pair had reportedly been messaging over social media before they met up on the night of the alleged assault.

Hayne's manager Wayne Beavis and former Parramatta Eels teammates have not spoken to him since news of the allegations first broke on Thursday night.

The code-hopper - who returned home in 2016 after an unsuccessful tilt at America's National Football League - already faces a civil lawsuit in the United States over allegations of non-consensual intercourse with a woman in 2015.

While Hayne remains in custody this evening, it is unclear when charges will be laid.

The 30-year-old father of one grew up in housing commission at Minto in Sydney's south-west.

Steve's wife and kids also showed up and echoed the sentiments that he really should just do the show. How do you feel about a reboot of The Office? "That would be an honour", Thompson told him.

It is the second sexual assault allegation levelled at the embattled rugby league player, who is now fighting a civil lawsuit in the U.S. over allegations he had non-consensual sex with a woman in December 2015, while he was in the USA playing NFL for the San Francisco 49ers.

'Police will allege in court that the man attended a home in the Hunter region on Sunday 30 September 2018, and sexually assaulted a 26-year-old woman.

After questioning by detectives from the sex crimes squad, Hayne was charged with aggravated sexual assault - inflicting actual bodily harm.

Hayne's future in the NRL was already in limbo with the off-contract star yet to be offered a new deal by the Parramatta Eels.

Hayne will face Burwood Local Court on December 10.

The investigation is being led by detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad.
