I'm A Celebrity's Anne Hegerty has opened up on the heartbreak of losing her father.

"I'm really close to saying I can't do this", she said tearfully, while some of the other stars of the show tried to console her.

"It's overwhelming. I think she was just expressing how we were all feeling, we just didn't want to admit it".

The 60-year-old - who stars in The Chase - said she relied on her father Ken for support and he helped her cope after being diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome aged 47.

She explained: "As an autistic person, I value my space, I can't be around people too much, so that could be a problem".

I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here has kicked off for 2018, the famous faces have assembled in camp and they're settling into their teams - well, most of them.

Listen to Newsbeat live at 12:45 and 17:45 every weekday on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra - if you miss us you can listen back here.

"I'm glad she's opened up about it because then she can say, look I'm just having one of my moments because she's just got such a lovely nature and I think people don't realise that because she plays with alter ego that like meaney".

Don’t set Nigeria ablaze, Buhari urges politicians

"So there's a real possibility of getting some of the camp mates mixed up, which will be very embarrassing".

ED! has contacted representatives for I'm A Celebrity for comment. "I remember in my diary writing, 'I'm beginning to suspect again that I have Asperger's syndrome'". I will understand, "at this time I have to fetch wood and water", doing that will make sense. I couldn't go in there because there are too many bugs.

This saw someone from the Housing Association pay her a visit.

'I have to line up the mirror neurones up in my head and go this, this, this ...

Surprisingly, Anne didn't know the answer, which made everyone laugh, and we're super happy to see she's settling into the jungle after an emotional first night in which she admitted she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to see the experience through. I like to have my own kitchen so I can cook and a washing machine so I can do washing. She began to suspect she had Asperger's two years earlier.

"I'm proud of her for being so incredibly courageous and challenging herself".

Anne continued: "I do feel slightly sorry for my mum, who basically didn't know what she'd ended up with". It doesn't have to be the same all the time but I actually have to work it out beforehand'.

The Chase, which is hosted by Andrew O'Keefe, airs on TVNZ at 5pm weekdays.
