Honda Passport to debut at LA auto show

In a few weeks, Honda will resurrect the Passport name for a new utility vehicle positioned between the CR-V and Pilot. Shortly after discontinuing the Passport, Honda rolled out the more car-like and practical Pilot.

Honda Motor Co. said Thursday it will introduce the 2019 Honda Passport on November 27, the day before it makes its global auto show debut at the L.A. show. The sizing pegs it squarely as a rival to the Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, and soon-to-launch Chevrolet Blazer. The company also says the Passport will be designed, developed, and built right here in the US with Honda's Lincoln, Alabama plant taking on assembly duties. Honda sold the original Passport, essentially a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo, from model years 1994 through 2002. The online event kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

If the Passport name seems familiar, you can pat yourself on the back.

Further strengthening its capacity to meet record demand for light trucks, in August Honda added production of the CR-V to a fourth North American plant, in Marysville, Ohio.
