Premier League clubs vote to use VAR from 2019-20 season

VAR is already in use in the Carabao Cup

Video assistant referees are set to be used in the Premier League next season, after the clubs agreed in principle to the move.

The Premier League will now make a formal request to the International Football Association Board and FIFA in order to introduce the technology.

VAR was used at the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation and has already been seen in some FA Cup and Carabao Cup games.

"At a Shareholders" Meeting today, clubs were provided with an update on the non-live VAR trials being undertaken by the League and Professional Game Match Officials (PGMOL) this season.

The Premier League has announced a reduced summer transfer window will continue next year and will close the day before the start of the new season.

VAR is already in use across the majority of Europe's major leagues including La Liga, the Bundesliga and Serie A.

Chelsea insist they have not broken Federation Internationale de Football Association rules on underage transfers
It is alleged that Traore played 25 matches for Chelsea at under-16 and under-18 level without being registered by the FA. It is unclear whether or not the cases against Chelsea or the other four Premier League clubs are close to completion.

Premier League clubs have voted in favour of introducing Video Assistant Referees (VAR) to the competition from the 2019-20 season onwards.

How VAR decisions are communicated to the fans in the stadiums will also be addressed, the league confirmed.

The Amex staged a ground-breaking VAR match last January when Albion beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.

On Saturday, Southampton forward Charlie Austin called for VAR after he was denied a goal for offside against Watford, a decision he called a "joke".

"I think it is a good thing".

"I think as long as we get the training and education right, and we get the right personnel, that's the most important thing for me".
