Wisconsin Students Throw Up Sig Heil In Prom Photo

In the photo, nearly all of the 63 boys appear to make the Sieg Heil salute before their junior prom in the spring at Baraboo High School.

Lori Mueller, of the Baraboo School District, said Monday via Twitter that the district will pursue all available options, including legal action, in response to the photo.

The school district and local authorities continue to investigate, speaking with the students and families involved to determine how and why this was taken.

Baraboo is a town of about 12,000 residents that is about 115 miles (185 kilometers) northwest of Milwaukee.

Mueller says the photo doesn't reflect the district's values and that administrators will pursue appropriate action.

Mueller said the photo appears to have been taken last spring and wasn't on school grounds.

The Auschwitz Memorial in Poland released a statement Monday emphasizing that the photo is one of the reasons children must continue to be taught about the brutality of what the Nazis did.

The Auschwitz Memorial tweeted about the photo, "This is why every single day we work hard to educate".

The group also attached a link to its website, offering lessons on the history of Auschwitz.

After Suzdaltsev posted the picture, he said he was subsequently contacted by students from Baraboo High who had suffered racist experiences.

The photos have since been removed, the photo agency wrote on its site in a message that blames "jerks" and online negativity. The internet can be a wonderful tool but for some there is an overwhelming urge to destroy.

Meanwhile, the photographer posted a statement saying, "To anyone that was hurt I sincerely apologize".

The student, who identified himself as Jordan Blue, said he was uncomfortable with the photo but could not leave its frame since the photographer told the boys to make the salute and immediately snapped the shot.
