Child care at this Prince George centre costs only $200/month

All 53 sites which are spread out across the province are expected to open by Dec. 1 2018

"The demand for this program was so strong that we expanded it to cover more children and more sites in every region of the province in the prototype stage", said Katrine Conroy, federal Minister of Children and Family Development.

On the Island, the $10-a-day prototype sites are: Fernwood Infant & Toddler Care in Victoria, Lexie's Little Bears Child Care in Langford, Grandma Marg's Clubhouse in Tofino, Rainbow Country Daycare Society in Port Hardy, the Alberni Valley Childcare Society's baby steps program in Port Alberni, the Hornby Island Daycare Society, Tigger Too Early Learning Centre in Comox and Parkside Academy Society in Duncan. In all, parents of around 2,500 children will benefit from the prototype sites, which are being offered throughout the province.

Jonathan Wilkinson, Member of Parliament for North Vancouver said under the initiative, child care providers at the new prototype sites will receive government funding.

The province selected the sites after a call for applications in June 2018.

The B.C. government is moving forward with 53 prototype projects around the province - including ones in the Comox Valley and Port Hardy - created to deliver child care that will cost families a maximum of $200 per month per child.

Hansen has previously coached Wales against the All Blacks , with the current New Zealand coach admitting it was tough. They deserved to win the game.

Thirty-five families with children enrolled in the two Coast daycares will benefit from the program with fees capped at $200 per month or eliminated altogether, a release from MLA Nicholas Simons said Friday. The sites will also share feedback with the provincial government to help inform future implementation of universal childcare. "These high-quality, low-priced spaces will help to shape the future direction of our Childcare B.C. plan, and we're excited to be working with providers to make life better for B.C. families".

She said the project looks to become a model for the New Democrat government's 10-year plan for affordable, quality child care. Nevermind that if they take their child out, they can't work.

The centre is one of more than 50 sites which were chosen to offer low-priced child care to parents in B.C. Training is also provided to help staff understand what they can do to also support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's calls to action.

Dicks said the daycare centre did not have to change any of its day-to-day operations or make any concessions in order to receive the funds.

Parents who are not accessing the low-priced spaces may still be eligible for support through the Affordable Child Care Benefit, which provides up to $1,250 per child a month for families with an annual income of $111,000 or less.
