Marc Marquez wins 5th MotoGP World Championship

Marquez started from sixth

Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) wrapped up a sensational seventh MotoGP world championship title at the home of Honda after claiming victory at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan, after a race-long battle with Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) ended with the latter crashing out of contention at Turn 10 with two laps to go, handing the win, and title, to the No. 93.

In a freaky turn of events, Marquez dislocated his shoulder while celebrating on the track with British rider Scott Redding.

"I just lay there on the asphalt and my brother and Jose put it in again", motorsports website Crash reported the champion as saying.

"It was not the first time; maybe it was my weak point of the season because I dislocated it many times during training at home. In December I need to have a pit stop with Dr Mir and next season it will be flawless", explained Marquez.

Dovizioso was quick to congratulate Marquez on taking another title, but says his and Ducati's form through the second half of the season provides optimism for 2019. Once we were rivals "big rivals" now we have nothing but respect and fun!

Despite the dislocated shoulder, Marquez picked himself up to lift the trophy at the Japanese Grand Prix - saying he feels "really, really good".

Pochettino warns Tottenham must "refresh the squad" in January
Asked about those comments, the manager said: "From day one I told you I am never going to judge the words of my boss". "It was hard to achieve the player we needed", Pochettino said.

"I tried to win the race, but the positive thing was I wasn't over the limit when I crashed", Dovizioso said.

That heart-in-mouth moment allowed Dovizioso to retake the lead, but Marquez continued to swarm all over the Italian, finally slashing past him with a daredevil move on lap 21 of 24.

With 11 to go, the two Hamamatsu factory machines passed Rossi and were closing in on the front three, with fifth place Alex Rins setting a lap almost a second quicker than race leader Dovizioso. He recovered but eventually finished 18th. "I was pushing really hard, so he made a mistake - I'm disappointed because he deserves to be on the podium with us". Dovi's intent was clear: a fastest lap of the race, hammer firmly down and the pin pulled.

The Australian won five titles in the reigning class and did so on board a Honda, just like Marquez.

LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow was second after a brilliant performance that saw the Briton hang with Marquez and Dovizioso until the final stages.

Another Spaniard, Alex Rins, was third for Suzuki.
