Several Strong Earthquakes Strike Off Canada's West Coast

A magnitude 6.8 natural disaster struck northwest of Canada's Vancouver Island late Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The 6.8-magnitude quake came about 35 minutes later and was centered about 12 miles closer to Port Hardy at a depth of about 6 miles, the USGS said.

A series of three large earthquakes have struck off the coast of British Columbia, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The second stronger quake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, occurred 122 miles southwest of the Canadian town more than half an hour later, at 11:16pm.

There are now no immediate reports of casualties or damage following the quakes and no tsunami warning has been issued.

There is no threat of a tsunami based on the data the USGS has gathered, therefore a tsunami warning has not been issued.
