Protesters Demand Referendum on Final Brexit Deal

Anti-Brexit protesters hold placards as they take part in an anti-Brexit pro-EU march through the centre of Liverpool

The event was organized by Leave Means Leave and led by former U.K. Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, who said the government should move forward with the vote.

Sturgeon's message was broadcast from the main stage in Parliament Square where marchers gathered after walking from Park Lane.

#PeoplesVoteMarch was trending on Twitter, with lots of young people - some of those who were not eligible to vote in the 2016 referendum - heading on the march.

"I think it's an excellent decision by the council", said Cllr Bourne.

The "People's Vote" campaign, which includes several pro-EU groups, said they had stewards stationed at regular intervals to estimate the size of the crowd.

Councillor Steve Wallis (Devonshire ward) joined yesterday's "People's Vote" protest calling on the government to hold a second referendum on the final Brexit deal.

One of the works was called Bridge Over Troubled Brexit Waters and depicted Mrs May carrying a cross over a river of bad Brexit headlines.

They said: "The prime minister has been clear". It's about people saying 'Look, it's a mess.' This is not what people voted for, it's not what Leave voters voted for. "Most importantly, people's personal finances would be impacted, especially homeowners, with their assets nearly certainly losing a chunk of their potential value" she warns.

At the other end of the age spectrum, Joe Trickey from Croydon celebrated his 83rd birthday at the march.

"It is about more democracy, not less and I feel very strongly about that".

And Leo Buckley, 16, from Hampshire, said: "Young people stand to lose the most".

Marchers weaved through London towards Westminster, with many young men and women who arrived from all over the country who had been too young to vote in the original EU Referendum but would like a say on how and whether the United Kingdom leaves the EU when the consequences become apparent to their generation and future ones.

He added that he is representing Enfield at today's march.

"We had a vote, we voted to leave, the idea to have a second referendum would be incredibly damaging", he said.

At the Tory Party conference earlier this month, Mrs May said: "There are plenty of prominent people in British politics, in parliament and out of it, who wants to stop Brexit in its tracks".

"It's now or never really, we're getting to crunch time".

Lord of The Rings actor Andy Serkis attended the rally with his wife and son, and described it as "one of the most, if not the most important march of a generation".

"The will of the people is now, it's people expressing their points of view in a more informed state".

Parliament would have to authorise any second national vote through primary legislation, and there are differences of opinion on the best time to push for a vote in the Commons on the principle of holding one.
