5-magnitude natural disaster hits 208 kilometres off Port Alice on Vancouver Island

The U.S. Geological Survey says several powerful quakes were reported Sunday evening.

The United States Geological Survey reports a preliminary magnitude 6.6 natural disaster struck near Port Hardy, Canada at 9:39 p.m. local time at a depth of about 7 miles (11 kilometers).

The earthquakes hit the Canadian province of British Columbia, near Vancouver Island.

Natural Resources Canada reports three quakes have struck 200 kilometres west of Vancouver Island ranging from 6.5 to 6.8.

At 10:22 p.m. a magnitude 6.5 quake struck the same area at a depth of 6 miles (10 kilometers).
