Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says he supports chairman Daniel Levy's spending policy

Mauricio Pochettino admits he hoped to freshen up his squad in the summer, but says Tottenham's top targets were unaffordable and that it was senseless to sign players they didn't want.

'Maybe you have the money but not enough to sign what you need or want.

"Of course we are always trying to improve our squad because football is dynamic".

"I think that professional players like Fabian don't need so many games when they are good players". That was impossible. I was happy and am happy with the squad that I have, 25 players.

"Sometimes you say the result was 2-1 or 3-0 or like this, but you say this team was better or need to improve or whatever".

"If you need to sign to make people happy or to be like other clubs that is not common sense". We showed that we don't care and we are not politicians or populists.

Tottenham's Belgium global Mousa Dembele has also started training after shaking off a thigh problem while England midfielder Dele Alli, who has been suffering with a hamstring problem, is expected to be back next week. They enter Saturday's match on a three-game winning streak. To date, he's lost on 51 occasions (22.3%) with his side registering 440 goals (1.92 per game) and conceding 239 (one every 86.6 minutes).

"It is normal when a club like Tottenham is spending the type of money it's spending on a new stadium, to have the possibility to spend the same money that another club.I don't want to say names.it's like we are in the same race but we have completely different vehicles". "But now, with all the circumstances in pre-season, maybe it's changed".

"When we started the season with three games that we won, and we were at the top of the table, people were talking in a different way: 'Oh how clever Tottenham are, because they keep all the squad from last season'".
