Lakers coach Walton will monitor LeBron's minutes, plans to use deep rotation

Joe Lacob Kevin Durant

After coming to terms with James, the Lakers filled out their roster by signing veterans Michael Beasley, JaVale McGee, Rajon Rondo and Lance Stephenson. The over/under is 222 at the time of writing, so my advice is: If you're thinking about betting this over because "the Lakers want to play fast", the point of this paragraph is to tell you that's already baked into the number.

James, who in July signed a four-year, $154 million contract with the Lakers, joins a roster that includes promising but untested players like 20-year-old Lonzo Ball, 21-year-old Brandon Ingram and 23-year-olds Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart.

Despite James himself saying the Lakers are a long way from challenging the Golden State Warriors, fellow analyst Kenny Smith said the Lakers are in "win now" mode. It's not hard to imagine them being a.500 team with better health past year. This is the first team in National Basketball Association history to have three players on the roster who ranked top seven in assists the year before. "So, we'll get a good amount of guys out there". While I do have some concerns regarding three-point shooting and size, I think this team has all the tools to be successful.

While the points per game average might not rise for Ingram this season due to James commanding most of the shots in the Lakers offense, the biggest sense of growth and improvement for Ingram will show in his efficiency numbers as well as his shooting percentages.

"We're working on this 18 months to two years in advance, and we didn't know where he was going", Petrie said.

Los Angeles Lakers coach Luke Walton plans to utilise a deep rotation in 2018-19.

The Lakers begin their season on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night at 10:30 pm ET on TNT, before returning back in L.A. for the home opener against the Houston Rockets on Saturday night on ESPN.
