Zazai blitzes 12-ball 50 to equal Gayle

Hazratullah Zazai

In front of the man whose record he drew level with, Chris Gayle, the Afghanistan batsman smacked the left-arm spinner Abdullah Mazari for 37 runs in one over with a wide added to six sixes.

A young Afghani batsman has joined a select group of cricketers including Sir Garfield Sobers by smashing six sixes in an over in a domestic tournament. However, his 12-ball half-century, which featured six sixes in an over against the Balkh Legends on Sunday has made the fraternity stop and marvel at his precocious talent. When Kabul Zwanan begun the reply innings, opener Hazratullah Zazai clubbed six sixes in an over, thundering the ground.

While Singh had hit a 12-ball 50 against England in the ICC World T20 2007 when he had smashed Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over, Gayle had achieved this feat batting for Melbourne Renegades against Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League 2016.

Hazratullah Zazai had made his worldwide debut recently against Ireland.

The 20-year-old produced a whirlwind 12-ball half-century which included 7 sixes and four boundaries.

He is the second man after Yuvraj to do it in a T20 game.
