MLB Investigating Astros Employee For Videotaping Red Sox's Dugout

The Astros, major league sources tell ESPN's Buster Olney, had deployed the employee to monitor whether the Red Sox were doing anything outside the rules on their side of the field.

MLB Chief Communications Officer Pat Courtney acknowledged Saturday night's incident in an email on Tuesday afternoon, saying, "We are aware of the matter and it will be handled internally".

"After the man was removed another Astros staffer intervened - according to sources who were on the scene - and tried to convince security that he was authorized to be in the area next to the dugout".

"Before the Postseason began, a number of Clubs called the Commissioner's Office about sign stealing and the inappropriate use of video equipment".

According to the New York Post, the Astros had an employee monitoring the Red Sox's dugout in Game 1 to see if they were illegally using a video monitor. The man was allowed to remain in the stadium but was not allowed back into the media area.

Rafael Devers floated a single to left-center that plated Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez with two down, as the Red Sox scored two runs in the first inning for the third consecutive game. "The series of complaints against the Astros, Sherman notes, could stem in part from a reputation in the industry that portrays them as a "[New England] Patriots-like" organization - that is, one that "pushes to the limits of the rules - and perhaps beyond".

Scott Miller says sign stealing is all people have been talking about. "If we feel there's something going on we switch the signs".

"With respect to both incidents regarding a Houston Astros employee, security identified an issue, addressed it and turned the matter over to the Department of Investigations".
