1 heats up after Djokovic's victory in Shanghai

Djokovic has regained the consistency he struggled to find earlier this year

On Sunday Djokovic won a record fourth Rolex Shanghai Masters title, in the final beating upstart and No. 13 seed Borna Coric 6-3, 6-4.

The 31-year-old Serbian needed one hour and 36 minutes to beat Coric, now world No. 19, who reached the final after beating the defending champion, Roger Federer of Switzerland, who in turn will fall to world No. 3 when the ATP rankings are released on Monday.

Coric was playing in his first final at a Masters 1000 tournament and his inexperience on the big stage told as Djokovic quickly stamped his authority on the match.

Djokovic will be up to second in the world when the new rankings are released on Monday, but he is desperate to take injured Rafael Nadal's number one spot before the year is out.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion had been imperious all week and yesterday was no different as he barely offered a sniff to the 19th-ranked Coric, his good friend and occasional training partner.

The final started out evenly matched until mistakes from Coric, 21, saw Djokovic up 4-2 less than half an hour into the first set, which he sealed after 38 minutes.

Rescuers picked them up after they landed a few hundred miles to the north of Baikonur and they were reported to be in good shape. His emotions bubbled up once he was reunited with his wife, their two young sons and his parents, back at the launch site.

The victory means Djokovic is now just 35 points behind Nadal in the race to end the year as world No.1 and 215 points behind the Spaniard in the official rankings. Ten years on, Djokovic has won more championships in Shanghai than any other tennis player and he is very grateful for his Chinese fans. He could only reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.

"Obviously the last three, four months have been terrific for me", Djokovic added.

Federer made a slow start against Coric after getting broken in the first game.

Roger Federer of Switzerland returns a shot to Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland during Day 7 of the Western and Southern Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center on August 17, 2018 in Mason, Ohio. "I was playing good, really, I was really happy how I played", he said. "I'm going to decide with my team in a few days", Djokovic said. I think since I was a kid I was always paying attention to the practice court.

"I was looking up to him since I was really, really young", he said, calling the upset over Federer one of his best results.
