Student bakes cookies with grandparent's ashes, hands them out at school

The cookies have not been tested yet.

A couple of students came to school, they brought some cookies they made.

Davis Police Lt. Paul Doroshov called the cremation cookie controversy 'a weird one, ' but told CBS13 and other locla news outlets that there have been no reports coming out of the high school of anyone falling ill as a result of eating the candies.

"We're getting this based on the statements", Doroshov explains.

The police department spokesperson also noted that the potentially adulterated cookies don't appear to have actually caused anyone any physical harm-at least not yet.

The school is handling the investigation, while the school resource officer is assisting with any additional resources needed, Davis police told ABC News. "There could be some emotional issues experienced, but no one got sick from this physically". Shockingly, however, some students "knew beforehand and still consumed the cookies".

He added, "This is so unconventional, it would take more research".

However, he ultimately had to withdraw from the match, which he lost 7-5. Serbia's Novak Djokovic beat Coric on Sunday in the finals.

The student, who attends Da Vinci Charter Academy in Davis, California, could be facing criminal charges for baking and distributing the cookies using human remains - whenever the police figure out exactly what crime she committed.

"It involves juveniles so there's various options as to what can be done with it", Doroshov noted. The police are investigating the incident, the report added.

"It blew my mind", said the boy's mother, who reportedly agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity. "I was really repulsed. I was upset that I wasn't even notified", said the boy's mother. She says her son was questioned and asked to submit a statement about what happened and sign it.

The student's father said the way administrators handled it suggests the school is "more concerned about protecting themselves than protecting their students", Fox 40 News reported.

Da Vinci Charter Academy Principal Tyler Millsap released a statement on Tuesday.

Millsap said he regrets that the story "has been taken up by the media" and said that there is no health risk to any students.

"We care about our students and we care about our student's families".
