Kerch blast: Crimea college 'bomb' kills 13

Crimea bloodbath Seeing friends die and fleeing for their lives- witnesses describe attack horror

The blast happened at a technical college that provides vocational training.

Speaking to local media, the head of the college Olga Grebennikova said someone blew themselves up inside the college, leaving "the bodies of children everywhere".

At least 10 people have been killed and dozens more wounded in an explosion at a college in Russian-annexed Crimea.

The blast at a college in the Crimean peninsula's city of Kerch was an act of terrorism carried out using a home-made bomb, the first deputy head of the National Guard Sergei Melikov said on Wednesday, according to TASS news agency.

Russian Federation annexed Ukraine's Crimea region in 2014, prompting worldwide condemnation and Western sanctions.

Pupils and college staff were among those killed, she said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters that officials were looking into a possible terrorist attack.

Putin voiced condolences to victims and their loved ones and ordered the authorities to evacuate badly injured victims by air to "leading" hospitals in Moscow and other cities, Peskov said.

"There are already lots of people in the emergency room, and in the operating theatre", the TASS news agency quoted the employee as saying. Many of those injured are reportedly in serious condition and medical students have flocked to the hospitals to assist.

Some earlier reports had quoted officials saying it was a gas explosion, but a spokeswoman for the regional gas-distribution company said it had no contract to supply gas to the college. Located in the easternmost tip of Crimea's Kerch peninsula, the area is connected to mainland Russian Federation by the newly-built massive Crimean bridge.

Russian Federation has opened a probe into a terrorist attack.
