Colts to face Bills QB Derek Anderson in Week 7

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced Wednesday morning that 13-year National Football League veteran Derek Anderson would be starting under center this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

The injury leaves the Bills (2-4) turning to the 35-year-old Anderson preparing to make his first start in almost two seasons.

The 35-year-old Anderson just signed with the Bills on October 7, but both McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane know him from their days with Carolina. Nathan Peterman opened the campaign as Buffalo's starter, but was supplanted by Allen after Week 1.

Though Anderson is new to Buffalo, the Bills are familiar with him.

There was an ESPN report on Tuesday that McDermott risked losing the Bills' locker room if he started Peterman.

"Derek's a guy I've been around in Carolina", McDermott said.

While McDermott has publicly been fairly supportive of Peterman, a fifth-round pick in 2017, the performance just isn't there.

Unfortunately, Peterman did what he does best after the Texans tied the game at 13 all and threw an interception which was returned for a touchdown.

Buffalo signed Anderson last week and according to the Democrat & Chronicles' Steve Bradley, he was brought on to serve as a mentor for Allen.

Spending the majority of his career with the Cleveland Browns (2006-09) and the Carolina Panthers (2011-17), Anderson has played in 74 career games (47 starts) completing 54.1 percent of his passes while throwing 60 touchdowns and 60 interceptions.
