It's World Mental Health Day today, an opportunity to raise more awareness about our mental well-being.

"It's important we keep raising awareness about mental health".

"Despite this, most of the people affected by mental, neurological and substance use disorders, many of them, 75 percent in low income countries, do not have access to the treatment that they need, " said Dr. Sands.

Mental health is said to be the most valuable thing that we pose with us.

Dr Richard Horton, editor-in-chief of the Lancet medical journal, which commissioned the report, said it highlighted the "shameful and shocking treatment of people with mental ill health around the world". "We all know that a young person with support, stability and the information will usually lead to a positive healthy adult".

He observed that although African countries were making progress, much more needed to be done to build mental resilience from an early age to help prevent mental distress and illness among adolescents and young adults and to manage recovery.

As part of the government's biggest increase in research and development spending, we announced last month the creation of eight new Mental Health Networks to bring together researchers from health to the humanities, to work collaboratively with charities and people who have experience of mental health issues.

Speaking on the second day of the Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit in London, Mr Stevens said the "broader influences" on young people's mental health must be addressed.

Social shifts, decent education, and pop culture have all played vital roles in the normalisation of mental health problems and the prevalence of these conditions in every day life, meaning that technically, there's never been a better time to talk.

"Poor mental health has touched both friends and family and I have seen first hand what a profound impact it can have".

The goal of the conference was to develop programmes to meet the needs of the Bahamian youth suffering from mental health issues and to remove the negative stigma towards mental illness.
