Taylor Swift breaks Whitney Houston's American Music Awards record

JLO AMA- Hero

After getting political in an Instagram post over the weekend, Taylor used her acceptance speech for Artist of the Year to encourage people to vote.

"Every award was voted on by the people", Swift said of the AMAs. She urged her fans to get educated on the candidates for their states, then get out and vote, as well.

The show - which aired on a Tuesday as opposed to the typical Sunday - dropped approximately 29 percent in total viewers after drawing 9.2 million a year ago, the outlet reports.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, New York rapper Cardi B, brought down the house with an exuberant performance of dance hit I Like It with J.Balvin and Bad Bunny.

In a rare moment for the usually apolitical star, Swift publicly declared her support for Tennessean Democrats Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper in the midterm elections, and stated her opposition to Republican Marsha Blackburn. The singer made her first awards show performance at the AMAs in three years with "I Did Something Bad".

Meanwhile, Post Malone was named Favorite Male Pop/Rock Artist, and K-Pop sensations BTS continued their incredible 2018 by landing the Favorite Social Artist honor.

Just when you thought there couldn't be any more cute goodness from these two, Taylor Swift went and booped Camila on the nose before Taylor went up to collect her award. The song is from her top-selling "reputation" album.

"This award and every single award given out tonight were voted on by the people", the 28-year-old popstar said while accepting the Artist of the Year award, Swift's third win of the night. Other performers included Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and Missy Elliott.

And Aretha Franklin was honored with a star-studded performance highlighting the Queen of Soul's gospel roots and her 1972 album Amazing Grace.
