Mitch McConnell is standing by Lisa Murkowski Kathryn Krawczyk

Demonstrators protest against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as they rally outside of the Supreme Court

She almost jeopardized Kavanaugh's confirmation and did historic harm to the Senate confirmation process, but McConnell still considers her a Republican in "very good standing".

On the campaign trail Trump insisted Mexico would pay for the wall.

McConnell signaled last week that he could reverse himself and consider what would be a third high court nominee for President Donald Trump should a vacancy arise in 2020.

The Kentucky Republican told The Associated Press in an interview Wednesday that that it would be "very, very hard to unseat the president in the primary".

Despite the outcry from Republican voters against Sen. "But the people who would be likely to challenge the president would not be coming to me for advice".

"Democrats want to raise your taxes, impose socialism, dismantle law enforcement, eliminate (the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency) and get rid of American borders", Trump said in a state where immigration is a particularly divisive topic because of the influx of laborers who support farming and other industries.

McConnell said he "generally" declines reporters' requests for him to critique "on a daily basis" the president's broadsides of political opponents and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with Trump's most incendiary comments about women, immigrants and other groups of Americans. Forty-nine Democratic senators supported the resolution and they would have needed an additional Republican vote - besides Collins - to reach the 51-vote threshold for the measure to pass, though the GOP-controlled House would likely not have acted on the legislation.

In that election, Democrats took control of the House, and elected California Rep. Nancy Pelosi as speaker, a position she held until the GOP took over in 2011. The public was not as supportive as Republicans had hoped.

"It worked exactly the opposite".

McConnell added that "this business of presidential harassment may or may not quite be the victor they think it is".

There were no signs of the recent contentious confirmation battle inside the Supreme Court Tuesday as Justice Brett Kavanaugh began his new job, asking his first question about 20 minutes into the first argument of the day.

DUP 'could vote against the Budget' over Brexit deal
Earlier in the day, she told BBC Radio Ulster that it is "eminently possible" to reach a Brexit deal that "works for everyone" with weeks.

GOP leaders blasted the Democratic proposal in advance of the vote, saying it would take away a low-priced insurance option for families who Republicans argue were hurt by the Affordable Care Act, more commonly referred to as Obamacare.

Ford's allegations and the reported rise in sexual abuse claims come as the Trump administration is poised to release new Title IX policies concerning sexual misconduct on campus - policies that recognize the right of due process for those accused of sexual assault.

In key battlegrounds across America, Republican leaders are warning voters to expect more political theater if they return Democrats to power next month.

Beside the gender gap, McConnell says Republicans "also had an enthusiasm gap".

"Seriously, Hillary?" was the reaction of Republican Congressman Steve Scalise, who was seriously wounded previous year when a shooter - who was a registered Democrat - targeted a Congressional Republican baseball practice in Virginia.

The US Senate voted 50-48 on Saturday to confirm him, with just one Democrat supporting him.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has declined to blame Democratic Sen.

Kavanaugh is expected to give the Supreme Court a reliable 5-4 conservative majority.

McConnell said he found Christine Blasey Ford's account of her sexual assault "convincing" but noted that there had been no corroboration that her assailant was Kavanaugh. Feinstein has denied that she or her staff leaked the accusation. Lisa Murkowski for voting against Brett Kavanaugh.

McConnell said he doesn't agree and pointed to the fact that Murkowski had won re-election as a write-in candidate in 2010.

"So, it will just be your bad luck if you happen to get sick and need health care on the weekend", she said. "Nobody's going to beat her", the Kentucky Republican added.
