Jamal Khashoggi: The Saudi regime appears to have butchered a prominent dissident

"The Saudi Consulate can not absolve itself of responsibility for this incident by allowing its premises to be searched", said Gulseren Yoleri of the Human Rights Association.

A Turkish official told the New York Times on the condition of anonymity that a team of Saudi agents killed the 59-year-old writer within two hours of his arrival at the consulate, and then dismembered his body with a bone saw they had brought for the goal.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor and United States resident, had written articles critical of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

"We don't know what has happened to him".

"His criticism, voiced over the past year, most surely rankles Mohammed bin Salman, who was elevated to crown prince last year and has carried out a wide-ranging campaign to silence dissent while trying to modernize the kingdom", the Post editorial read.

The mainstream - so far - is not reporting sufficiently on the huge, well-funded Saudi lobbying and Congressional bribing apparatus in the US; you have to turn to this excellent exposé in The Nation, which reported that "More than a third of the members of Congress contacted by such a [public relations] firm [registered to promote Saudi interests] also received a campaign contribution from a foreign agent at that firm". Khashoggi is a critic of the Saudi regime.

Saudi Arabia is a longtime ally of the United States, but on Monday senior US officials expressed alarm over Khashoggi's disappearance.

Saudi Arabia has now invited Turkish experts and related officials to visit the consulate, according to Turkey's foreign ministry.

Both planes later returned to Riyadh with one stopping in Dubai and the other in Egypt, Sabah reported, adding the police were looking into the possibility that Khashoggi was kidnapped.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said Riyadh must provide "honest answers" to the claims that he was murdered.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor who had been published in the Arab and Western media, vanished last Tuesday after visiting the consulate to obtain official documents. Its passengers checked into two hotels near the consulate and booked rooms until October 5. A hotel worker confirmed that the group checked in Tuesday. "The police came two or three days ago", he said.

'I texted a few friends to inform them, and I asked about Jamal at the consular building.

"We agree that if there was any truth to the allegations of wrongdoing by the Saudi government it would be devastating to the US-Saudi relationship and there will be a heavy price to be paid - economically and otherwise", Graham tweeted.

Camera footage and airport records are being examined as part of Turkey's investigation. Closed-circuit TV camera feeds from the preschool opposite the rear entrance have been retrieved by Turkish intelligence, and images from outside the hotels are also being reviewed, according to people familiar with the probe.

Hatice Cengiz made the appeal in an opinion piece for The Washington Post newspaper, where Khashoggi was a columnist and an outspoken critic of some of Riyadh's policies. "The consulate officials can not save themselves by simply saying "he has left", Erdogan told a news conference in Budapest, Hungary, where he is on a two-day visit.

Behind a gate next to the front entrance is a covered vehicle port, out of the view of cameras.

The image released by the Post bore a date and date stamp. The building is topped with the Saudi emblem of golden crossed swords and a palm tree.

Turkish authorities suspect Khashoggi was murdered while inside the building, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says he is now personally involved in the case. the BBC reported.
