Cosby sentenced to 3 to 10 years in state prison

Bill Cosby arrives for his sentencing hearing at the Montgomery County Courthouse Tuesday Sept. 25 2018 in Norristown Pa

On the second day of his sentence hearing, the judge also ruled that Cosby will be classified as a SVP (sexually violent predator), though his defense argued against the classification on Monday.

In the past few years, more than 60 women have come forward to claim Cosby drugged and/or assaulted them over the past five decades in similar circumstances to what Constand described in her case.

Constand said she thought the pills were herbal remedies for stress and was stunned and confused when they caused her words to slur, her vision to blur and her legs to turn rubbery, she testified.

A defense psychologist says the chances that Bill Cosby will commit another sex offense are "extraordinarily low" because he's old, legally blind and needs help getting around.

Cosby was convicted on three counts of aggravated indecent assault this spring against former Temple University employee Andrea Constand in 2004; she attested that the comedian, a Temple trustee, gave her bills and wine, and raped her while she drifted in and out of consciousness. Cosby spokesman Andrew Wyatt says the comedian plans to remain silent in court.

Bill Cosby arrives for his sentencing at the Montgomery County court.

He is also allegedly completely blind, according to defense.

Cosby is now free on US$1-million bail until he's sentenced, which is expected to happen Tuesday.

Beijing to detail trade war stand after calling off U.S. talks
On Monday, US imposed a 10 percent tax on 6,000 Chinese goods, ranging from rice and textiles to clothes and manufacturing goods. China imports far less from the United States, making a dollar-for-dollar match on any new U.S. tariffs impossible.

"I have often asked myself why the burden of being the sole witness in two criminal trials had to fall to me".

Though the three charges each carry a maximum possible sentence of 10 years, Judge O'Neill announced Monday that the charges had been merged into one because they all stem from the same event.

Prison officials will process Cosby at the nearby state prison in Schwenksville before determining in which of Pennsylvania's 22 male prisons he will serve his sentence, prison spokeswoman Amy Worden wrote in an email.

She said she didn't report the assault at the time because, "The shame was overwhelming".

On Tuesday, Cosby's accusers, including model Janice Dickinson, entered the courtroom as a united front, taking their seats in the third row behind Constand and her family.

Constand writes in a victim-impact statement released Tuesday that Cosby's 2004 attack on her was just "the tip of the iceberg" for the suffering that followed. ". Now, nearly 15 years later, I'm a middle aged woman who's been stuck in a holding pattern for most of her adult life, unable to heal fully or move forward". What is unusual is that after being convicted of these serious sex crimes in April, the judge sent Cosby home under house arrest rather than directly to prison, something prosecutors requested but were ultimately denied.

The judge quoted Constand's own statement to the court, in which she said Cosby took her "beautiful, young spirit and crushed it". Cosby's first trial in 2017 ended in a mistrial when jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict. On the first day of the sentencing, the comic laughed at times as the psychologist on the stand for the state portrayed him as a sexual predator with signs of a mental disorder.

Cosby became the first black actor to star in a prime-time TV show, I Spy, in 1965.
