Attack aftermath: Iran president says USA wants to cause insecurity

A general view shows an attack on a military parade in Ahvaz Iran in this

Amid wails and vows of revenge, thousands of Iranians on Monday attended a mass funeral service for victims of a weekend attack targeting a military parade that killed at least 25 people.

A man wearing a baseball cap emblazoned with what appears to be a Revolutionary Guard logo discussed the impending attack in Farsi in the video. "We stand with the Iranian people against the scourge of radical Islamic terrorism and express our sympathy to them at this bad time".

Last year, after two attacks linked to the Islamic State left 23 dead in Tehran, the White House released an official statement from the president that offered sympathy for the victims of the attack, but added that "states that sponsor terrorism risk falling victim to the evil they promote".

Iran's intelligence minister said on Monday that a "large" network of suspects have been arrested in connection with Saturday's attack on a military parade in the city of Ahvaz that killed 25 people.

Journalists and onlookers turned to look toward the first shots, then the rows of marchers broke as soldiers and civilians sought cover under sustained gunfire.

In the square itself, also segregated, a woman dressed in the traditional Arab-style chador wailed loudly and held a picture of her son, Reza Shoaibi, a conscript who was among the dead.

President Hassan Rouhani said yesterday Iran was ready to confront the United States and its Gulf Arab allies, a day after an attack on an Iranian military parade killed 29 people, including children and 12 members of the elite Revolutionary Guards.

The Islamic State (Isil) has claimed responsibility for the shooting but so has an Arab separatist group within Iran, known as the Ahvaz National Resistance.

Supreme Court nominee's accuser willing to testify 'if terms are fair'
Ford's attorneys issued a statement saying there are multiple witnesses that need to be interviewed, not just Ford and Kavanaugh. Lawyer Debra Katz writes that Ford's "strong preference" remains a full investigation before she testifies.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned "the Americans will regret this" ahead of his United Nations summit with US President Donald Trump in NY.

Tehran believes that Saudi Arabia is behind the attack, encouraged by the United States and Israel.

But Senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) have said the Ahvaz attack was carried out by militants trained by Gulf states and Israel, and backed by America. But it is unlikely the IRGC will strike any of these foes directly.

Their funerals will be held on Monday.

Iranian leaders accused the United States of complicity in the attacks in Ahvaz. Iranian leaders blamed the US and Israel and threatened retaliation.

He was speaking at a funeral ceremony for the victims attended by thousands.

The attack on the military parade is likely to give security hardliners like the Guards more political ammunition because they did not endorse the pragmatist Rouhani's pursuit of the nuclear deal with the West, analysts say.

"You will see that our response will be crushing and devastating and you will regret what you have done", he said, according to Reuters.
