Positive signs, but not there yet: European Union criticizes May's Brexit plan

Theresa May is to issue a fresh call to European Union leaders for compromise in the Brexit talks as Brussels' chief negotiator said he was ready to come forward with a new offer on the Irish border.

Looming ever larger is the spectre of a "no deal" scenario - something that many Brexit supporters say could be tolerated, even welcomed by some - but which is widely seen by many economists and business people as catastrophic.

May told reporters that her offer to solve the border riddle - the biggest obstacle to a deal - was "the only credible and negotiable plan on the table that delivers no hard border in Northern Ireland and also delivers on the vote of the British people" to leave the EU.

Reiterating that Britain is committed to a "legally operative protocol on Northern Ireland", the source said May would again underline that such an agreement must respect her country's integrity, "which the Commission's proposal does not".

Britain leaves in late March but both sides are keen to seal an agreement in coming weeks to leave relevant parliaments enough time to ratify it. "Every day that is left we must use for talks". They made that choice, ' she said.

The UK trade body will today meet with EU representatives in Brussels to highlight the economic importance of the integrated European automotive industry and set out the repercussions for businesses, economies and jobs if a deal can not be struck. The removal of border infrastructure was a key part of the Good Friday Agreement that brought peace to Northern Ireland after years of sectarian strife.

"We all recognise that time is short but extending or delaying these negotiations is not an option", she said.

Cigna-Express Scripts deal gets US antitrust approval
The majority of the cost savings that result from the tie-up will flow to customers and not shareholders, Cordani has said . In its ruling, the DOJ stated that the Cigna-Express merger is "unlikely to result in harm to competition or consumer".

The former minister, who resigned when May promised to impose Chequers, will say in a speech to a German thinktank that "many of us will shortly be presenting an alternative plan which will outline a more ambitious vision" and said that the United Kingdom and Europe would be better off if they engaged in friendly economic competition.

The former soldier told the paper he was joining the hardline Brexiteer European Research Group (ERG), saying: "I've come to the conclusion that this "put up, shut up" attitude of the Prime Minister's - it's Chequers or nothing - you do as you're told or else, is a massive insult, not only to my colleagues but also to the voters".

The "right of the party, the pro-Brexit wing", Mr Stride said, "will be very concerned we'll end up where we could have a second referendum or we could end up not leaving the European Union altogether, so there is a danger of that happening if Chequers does not prevail".

Most checks can take place away from the border, at company premises, or the market, ' Barnier said of customs and regulatory checks on goods that might move from British mainland to Northern Ireland. By this I mean, among other things, the readiness to cooperate closely in the area of security and foreign policy.

One EU diplomat told AFP that leaders in Salzburg wanted to give May something to take back home, ahead of a meeting of her fractious Conservative party next month.

In addition, the tens of thousands of parts making up a vehicle cross European Union borders multiple times before final assembly, with the majority of components going into UK-built cars coming from European Union suppliers, supporting supply chain jobs across the region.
