Fortnite is an immensely popular battle royale game created by developer Epic Games.

The child had been playing the popular third-person shooter game with Aliperti for several months.

Michael Aliperti, 45, was arrested in NY this week after threatening to shoot an 11-year-old boy who he lost to in the popular online video game Fortnite.

A man from NY has been arrested after taking a loss in a match of Fortnite Battle Royale a little too seriously.

He has since been charged with second-degree aggravated harassment and acting in a manner to injure a child.

After being eliminated by the 11-year-old, Michael Aliperti, 45, allegedly threatened the boy verbally through the XBox system, through the system's messaging service and via text. These messages included the threat to shoot the 11-year-old boy and were sent after a loss in the game.

The child's family reported the incident to police, who increased their presence at the child's school, according to reports.

At the moment, it is unknown what will happen with Michael Aliperti. He may end up avoiding conviction, but considering what he did, it is very unlikely that this will happen.

Fortnite has become a cultural phenomenon among gamers since it was released a year ago. Recently, there have been reports that the video game has caused numerous divorces.
