Jemele Hill To Leave ESPN In September

Jemele Hill and ESPN Finally Calling It Quits

ESPN declined to make executives available for comment.

According to Jim Miller's report, ESPN and Jemele Hill are working on a buyout that will have her contract end on September 1.

'We have addressed this with Jemele and she recognizes her actions were inappropriate.' Despite calls from the White House demanding her ouster, then-network president John Skipper chose not to suspend Hill.

The separation was due to Hill's desire to be involved in politics, while ESPN wants to be apolitical, the Post reported.

The channel distanced itself from the host's remarks when its ESPN PR Twitter account tweeted: 'The comments on Twitter Jemele Hill regarding the president do not represent the position of ESPN'. Hill knew it. ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro knew it. In October 2017 she was suspended for two weeks after publishing a series of tweets that called for an advertiser boycott of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones after Jones said that players would be benched if they did not stand for the national anthem. The two lasted less than a year on the "The Six", the new name for their "SportsCenter" edition. Hill said she regretted that she had "painted ESPN in an unfair light". They argued that conservative ESPN personalities such as Curt Schilling, Mike Ditka and Britt McHenry had been dropped for far lesser offenses.

Hill, a former newspaper columnist, has spent the last several months writing sporadically for ESPN's The Undefeated site. ESPN publicly bragged that ratings for the 6 p.m. "SportsCenter" rose after Hill and Smith were replaced by Sage Steele and Kevin Negandhi.

The report on Hill's departure comes one day after ESPN announced that host Michelle Beadle was leaving the show Get Up! but would stay with the network.

Hill was also supposed to contribute to a number of programs on the network: documentaries the "E:60" newsmagazine, and, even a revived version of the "His & Hers" podcast she started with Smith.

"There is a real concentration, still a real need, on stories about women of color... that will be a huge focus of what I do", she said.
