Australia's foreign minister Julie Bishop quits after leadership change

Malcolm Turnbull left did not notice that Peter Dutton was standing directly behind him in a fairly ominous fashion

Last week's mass government tantrum proved just one thing: The Liberal Party stands united in its complete contempt for women.

Former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce, who resigned from cabinet in February, will become special envoy for drought assistance and recovery.

Bishop's resignation creates more unrest amidst the upheaval of the Liberal National Coalition government, as new Prime Minister Scott Morrison works to patch together a cohesive cabinet from the opprobrium of the Liberal party's civil war last week.

Mr Morrison is the 30th prime minister, and the fifth in five years after Julia Gillard, Kevin Rudd, Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull.

Bishop, the party's deputy leader, reportedly secured just 11 votes out of 85 in the first round - significantly lower than Morrison and the third challenger, Peter Dutton.

The factional truce comes two days after Turnbull announced he would resign and quit Parliament following weeks of destabilising campaigning by the conservative wing of the Liberal Party.

She is understood to have been bitterly disappointed that a group of moderates tactically voted against her.

Leaked WhatsApp messages show Liberal MPs' plan to dump Julie Bishop from leadership race.

Keys in Liverpool win over Brighton
Brighton stunned Manchester United with a 3-2 victory last weekend and pushed hard for an equaliser at Anfield on Saturday. In previous years, the continuing narrative most have against the Reds is the lack of talent they have between the sticks.

Australia has endured a turbulent period in politics that has seen six changes in the top job in 11 years.

One of the casualties was Labor's Julia Gillard, Australia's first female leader, who constantly battled misogyny and made worldwide headlines for her fiery rebuttal of then Liberal opposition leader Tony Abbott in parliament in 2012.

"It was pretty lonely", the former lawyer said a year ago, adding that she would suggest ideas which were ignored until copied by her male colleagues.

Former Minister for Law Enforcement and Cyber Security Angus Taylor has been moved to the Energy portfolio, after earlier this month praising the role of DHA and previously saying that he considers the Australian government's approach to cybersecurity "world leading", with no cybersecurity portfolio named by the prime minister on Sunday.

The new foreign minister's big challenge will be navigating a tricky relationship with China, Australia's top trading partner.

"My plan for this country is for an even stronger Australia", he said.

"That's going to be a very significant test for Scott Morrison".
