Egypt Intelligence Chief arrives in Israel to finalise Gaza truce talks

Israel and Palestinian fighters in Gaza, including Hamas, have fought three wars since 2008 and tension since late March has led to fears of yet another full-blown conflict.

A journalist at the goods crossing, known as Kerem Shalom, said dozens of trucks carrying various types of goods began passing into the Gaza Strip.

Akram Sa'id Muammar from east of Rafah was shot by Israeli snipers, while a second serious injury was reported in the neck during the clashes in the Rafah border with Israel.

The reopening of the Kerem Shalom crossing came as Egypt was stepping up efforts to broker a lasting cease-fire.

Head of the Egyptian intelligence, Abbas Kamel, reportedly met with Israeli officials in Tel Aviv on Wednesday Al-Hayat newspaper reported, adding that the meeting aimed at finalizing the details of a long-term ceasefire deal with Hamas.

Since March 30, 167 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire.

But Fatah's backing is crucial for any deal as the party retains a large presence in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and has overall control in areas under Abbas' Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.

Kamel is also expected to meet with Abbas in Ramallah, the ‎‎report said.‎.

Several observers also noted that Google is still bound by a 20-year agreement it struck with the Federal Trade Commission in 2011.

The police statement did not immediately give the man's condition.

Gaza Health Ministry said that at least 12 Palestinians were injured, including six by live gunshots.

The Rafah crossing is now only open to people, according to Egyptian sources, but a Hamas source said goods such as cement and fuel have passed through since May.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government has negotiated with the Hamas terror organisation responsible for the recent upsurge in attacks against Israelis along the Gaza border, agreeing to a ceasefire in which Hamas promises not to attack the Jewish state, and Israel enables the creation of a naval route between Gaza and Cyprus.

Abbas also rejected Israel's deduction in the amount of money provided by the Palestinian Authority to the families of martyrs and prisoners from Palestinian tax funds.

The crossing is a vital lifeline for Gazans and their crippled economy, but Israel had closed it to goods except for food and medicine to pressure Hamas.

In recent weeks, Hamas has been mulling proposals - tabled by Egypt and the United Nations - for inter-Palestinian reconciliation, a Hamas-Israel truce, and humanitarian projects in the blockaded Gaza Strip. A dispute over power-sharing has hindered implementation of the deal, but the Egyptian source said Cairo was still seeking progress on the issue.
