ESPN Anthem

"Our plan going into this year is to not broadcast the anthem", said Jimmy Pitaro, ESPN's presidevt, speaking to reporters Friday. "Our plan going into this year is to not broadcast the anthem", Pitaro explained.

"Again, there could be changes". "When something happens, when Eagles disinvited from White House, when someone takes a knee, if we think newsworthy were going to cover it", said Pitaro, according to Fischer.

"We generally have not broadcasted the anthem and I don't think that will change this year".

ESPN had shown the national anthem before games in the past, but opted, for the most part, not to do so previous year.

US blacklists Russian, Chinese companies for breaking North Korea embargo
He was quoted as saying on Thursday that a decision on the measures would be taken by Russia's leadership. It has been angered in the past by unilateral US sanctions on Chinese firms and individuals.

Some exceptions were made to that policy.

First, for the season-opening game, which was held on the fifth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks; again in Week 3, a week in which players across the league protested during the anthem in response to USA president Donald Trump's comments at a rally; and also in Week 4, in the wake of the mass shooting at a Las Vegas concert.

Pitaro added that ESPN will cover instances where sports and politics intersect but emphasized that the World Wide Leader is not a political organization.

The remarks come just months after the NFL adopted a policy that would fine teams and league personnel who do not "stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem". The protests were started by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick during the 2016-2017 National Football League season in opposition to police brutality. It's not our job to politics, purely, but we'll cover the intersection of sports & politics.
