USA ex-spymaster says Trump colluded with Russian Federation

Former CIA Director John Brennan testifies on Capitol Hill in Washington

Brennan, whose criticisms of Trump have escalated in recent months, wrote that the president was "desperate" to end the Russian Federation investigation.

Former U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, another critic whose clearance Trump said he might target, cautioned that Brennan was expressing "an informed opinion".

On Thursday's episode of CNN's the Lead, anchor Jake Tapper observed that despite President Donald Trump's antipathy toward what he calls a "rigged witch hunt", the president is inadvertently aiding the Russian Federation probe. He said Brennan has "unparalleled integrity". "And these people led it!"

"So I think it's something that had to be done", Trump said.

"Mr. Trump's claims of no collusion are, in a word, hogwash", Brennan wrote.

Democrats are lining up to denounce President Donald Trump's decision to revoke the security clearance of former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan. Bruce Ohr, a Justice Department official now in the criminal division, was also on the White House list.

Taliban militants overrun Afghan army base, capture dozens of soldiers
These and other moves boosted the number of US troops in Afghanistan by at least 3,500 to a total of more than 14,000. Their son and two daughters were wounded by shrapnel from an airstrike on the Taliban near a mosque.

"By issuing such a statement, Mr Trump was not only encouraging a foreign nation to collect intelligence against a United States citizen, but also openly authorising his followers to work with our primary global adversary against his political opponent", Brennan wrote.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the decision at a White House briefing Wednesday.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, says Trump's move is a "stunning abuse of power".

Brennan has been deeply critical of Trump's conduct, calling his performance at a press conference last month with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland "nothing short of treasonous". "So, this is a unsafe precedent to set".

The White House is also reviewing the security clearance of other former officials who have been critical of the president, including former national intelligence director James Clapper, former national security agency director Michael Hayden, and former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

They include Comey; James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence; former CIA Director Michael Hayden; former national security adviser Susan Rice; and Andrew McCabe, who served as Trump's deputy Federal Bureau of Investigation director until he was sacked in March.
